Vegan Football Diet (Plant-Based Fueling)
7 min read · 2026-08-04
Vegan football diet basics for players—plant protein, carbs for matches, and practical meal ideas.
Can footballers eat vegan?
Yes—many vegan footballers and plant-forward squads prove it is possible. A vegan football diet still needs enough calories and carbs for 90 minutes; only the protein sources change.
Build the plate
- Carbs: rice, pasta, potatoes, oats, fruit, bread
- Protein: tofu, tempeh, seitan, lentils, beans, soy yogurt, pea protein
- Fats: nuts, seeds, olive oil, avocado
- Micronutrients: varied plants; consider B12 with a clinician if fully vegan
Match day
Keep pre-game meals familiar and lower in heavy fiber right before kickoff. Bean-heavy stews may sit better at lunch than 60 minutes before a game.
